Miru Namoo Gallery Cafe, Jeju, South Korea
Winter weather on Jeju provides enough impetus to seek out warm and welcoming retreats. The day of our interview was one of those days. Known by a few foreign residents and locals alike, the Miru Namoo Gallery Café is a cosy space providing a mix of contemporary and traditional ambience and a place in which the founder, Kim Jo Sook, actually lived. Our welcome was one of genuine pleasure as Lee Kwan Hee smiled and guided us in.
Myeong Gwan Ok and hanji art craft, Jeju, South Korea

The open smile and warm eyes belonged to Myeong Gwan Ok (명관옥) as she greeted me on arrival at Yae Ji Won (예지원) in Bomok Village, not far from Seogwipo’s city centre. Visits to Seoul have kept Gwan Ok very busy during the last month or so. A couple of weeks ago time allowed her to share knowledge about her craft with me. Gwan Ok calls her craft Hanji Art Craft and if translated literally, one would be saying Korean paper art craft: A craft that uses paper made from the Mulberry tree.
Goldenhill herb farm, Jeju, South Korea
Herb Wellbeing Food; Herb Shop; Herb Farm
Complement a trip to Jeju Do’s oldest fishing and agricultural village by having lunch at the Goldenhill Herb Farm. Gosan Village is only 4.2km away from a delicious ‘pizza size’ Goldenhill Gold Burger.
After visiting the village and taking in the views of the small harbour and, of course, Chagwi Island (beautiful scenery and good fishing), head East. Once you arrive, don’t be put off by the downstairs area too much (they may be in the process of renovating – they may not) before heading upstairs to the log cabin-style dining area.
